Shikimic Acid (CAS: 138-59-0) has been used as a standard for the quantification of shikimate in apical parts of roots. It has also been used as a substrate in shikimate kinase assay.
Shikimic Acid serves as a precursor for the biosynthesis of aromatic amino acids, alkaloids and other aromatic metabolites in microorganisms.
Shikimic Acid inhibits platelet aggregation, arterial and venous thrombosis and cerebral thrombosis by affecting the metabolism of arachidonic acid, it has anti-inflammatory and analgesic effects, and can also be used as an intermediate of antiviral and anticancer drugs. It also has the effect of preventing avian influenza drugs "Tamiflu" and "influenza.
